MAINTENANCE & FLUIDS
2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Brake Fluid & Service
Check the brake reservoir level and specified fluid; a falling level or soft pedal calls for inspection rather than routine topping up.
Confirm the engine, trim, drivetrain, market and installed equipment before using a part number, capacity or repair procedure.

Use the 1500 brake-system procedure for bleeding and fluid replacement.
Fluid and inspection
GM specifies new DOT 3 hydraulic brake fluid for this truck (original GM part 19299818 US / 19299819 Canada). The published maintenance schedule calls for fluid replacement at 45,000 miles (72,000 km) or three years, whichever comes first. Fluid that absorbs moisture can degrade brake performance even if the truck sees little mileage.
When to stop driving
A red brake warning, fluid leak, very soft pedal, severe pull or reduced stopping ability is a safety issue. Do not continue driving until the braking system is inspected. ABS warning lights require a diagnostic scan and inspection of the relevant sensor and wiring.
- Keep the master-cylinder cap and surrounding area clean.
- Never reuse fluid drained from the brake system.
- Only use verified wheel, caliper and bleed specifications.
Pad and rotor checks
Inspect both sides of each axle for pad thickness, rotor damage and free caliper movement. The front and rear assemblies require different parts. Our brake pad and rotor guide includes catalogue references and signs of uneven wear; always verify equipment and brake package before ordering.
Use the correct model-year manual and current service information. Stop if instructions or safety precautions are unclear, and use a qualified technician for work you cannot verify.
