MAINTENANCE & FLUIDS

2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Maintenance Schedule

Use the oil-life monitor for oil changes, rotate tires at about 7,500 miles (12,000 km), and follow time-based fluid and filter limits.

Check your configuration

Confirm the engine, trim, drivetrain, market and installed equipment before using a part number, capacity or repair procedure.

Figures are distilled from the 2015 GM normal/severe schedules. Mileage and calendar limits both matter. Special-use footnotes and repeated intervals remain in the original schedule.

The regular service rhythm

Chevrolet’s 2015 schedule calls for checking the engine oil level and oil-life percentage at regular service visits. Tire rotation is generally recommended at approximately 7,500-mile / 12,000-kilometre intervals. Oil and filter should be replaced when the monitor calls for it, at least annually even with low use.

What changes with severe use

Frequent towing, heavy loads, off-road conditions or extensive stop-and-go driving may put the truck on the severe-service schedule. Transmission and transfer-case fluid work has separate use-based requirements. The factory schedule also gives time limits for air filters, brake fluid, cooling system service and belt inspection.

  • Rotate tires around 7,500 mi / 12,000 km when appropriate.
  • Replace engine oil and filter as indicated, at least once per year.
  • Check the cabin filter at its time or mileage interval, earlier in dusty conditions.
  • Confirm severe-service requirements before towing regularly.

What to record

Keep a small log with date, mileage or kilometres, engine oil and filter, tire rotations, brake inspections, coolant checks and drivetrain fluid services. When buying a used truck without records, confirm fluid condition and the manufacturer’s schedule before assuming a service was done.

Normal versus severe use

Towing, commercial duty, extensive idling, repeated short trips and some dusty or extreme conditions may qualify for the severe schedule. The transfer case also has a separate extreme-duty category. If you do not know the truck’s prior use, inspect the fluids and review the appropriate factory service conditions rather than assuming all previous maintenance happened.

Before working on your vehicle

Use the correct model-year manual and current service information. Stop if instructions or safety precautions are unclear, and use a qualified technician for work you cannot verify.
