Finding the air cleaner
Follow the large intake duct from the engine toward the air-filter housing. Carefully release the fasteners and note how the original element sits in the housing. Dust and debris must not be allowed into the intake duct.
When a filter needs changing
Inspect the engine air cleaner during regular services. The normal GM schedule shows replacement around 37,500 miles (60,000 km) or four years, whichever comes first. Heavy dust can shorten the interval. A current Chevrolet parts listing for ACDelco A3181C (GM 22845992) includes 2015 Silverado 1500, but owners should compare the removed filter and verify VIN fitment before buying.
- Inspect the housing seal and fasteners.
- Never operate the engine with an open intake housing.
- Confirm the actual filter shape against the removed part.
Use the correct model-year manual and current service information. Stop if instructions or safety precautions are unclear, and use a qualified technician for work you cannot verify.
