PROBLEMS & DIAGNOSTICS
2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 P0700 & P0741 Transmission Codes
P0700 means the transmission controller requested the check-engine light; P0741 points to torque-converter clutch performance or stuck-off operation. Neither code alone proves a failed transmission.
Confirm the engine, trim, drivetrain, market and installed equipment before using a part number, capacity or repair procedure.
How transmission codes differ
| Code | General meaning | First step |
|---|---|---|
| P0700 | Transmission control system requests MIL | Read TCM-specific codes and freeze-frame |
| P0741 | Torque converter clutch performance/stuck off | Compare commanded TCC, slip, fluid conditions and drivability |
Code definitions are starting points, not individual parts diagnoses.
Why P0700 is only the start
P0700 is a request from the transmission control module to illuminate the malfunction indicator lamp. A generic scanner may display only P0700 while missing the more useful TCM faults. Record codes with a scanner that reads the transmission module, and identify the six-speed or eight-speed gearbox from RPO/build data.
What P0741 can mean
The controller may detect unexpected converter-clutch slip under conditions when the clutch is commanded to operate. Possible causes include hydraulic pressure, a control solenoid or valve-body fault, fluid/temperature issues, converter wear or software/command conditions. An engine misfire or vibration can feel similar, so confirm slip data before quoting a converter replacement.
- Use the correct six-speed or eight-speed GM diagnostic and fluid-level procedure.
- Check for applicable calibration updates by VIN and RPO rather than treating every 2015 truck alike.
- Do not tow with severe slipping, overheating or loss of drive.
Special note for the 2015 eight-speed
Selected 2015 L86 6.2L/8L90 trucks were included in GM service update 15389 concerning torque-converter clutch shudder and TCM calibration. Verify the VIN, transmission RPO and update status; the existence of that bulletin is not proof your P0741 has the same cause.
Use the correct model-year manual and current service information. Stop if instructions or safety precautions are unclear, and use a qualified technician for work you cannot verify.
