ELECTRICAL & FUSES

2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Trailer Wiring & Connector

Trailer lights and brake-controller operation depend on the installed connector, wiring package and matching fuses.

Check your configuration

Confirm the engine, trim, drivetrain, market and installed equipment before using a part number, capacity or repair procedure.

Inspecting the connector

Look for corrosion, bent terminals, broken wires and a loose ground at the trailer socket. Test truck functions with a known-good trailer or appropriate test equipment before blaming the trailer itself. Accessories added after sale can change the wiring.

Brake controller and charging circuits

A factory or aftermarket brake controller must be diagnosed using its own instructions. Confirm trailer-breakaway equipment and brake function before towing. Avoid guessing pin assignments from wire colour alone; verify the actual socket standard and GM diagram.

  • Check running lights, brake lights and turn signals separately.
  • Never tow with an inoperative trailer braking system where brakes are required.
  • Secure wiring away from exhaust and moving suspension parts.

First underhood fuse checks for trailer lamps

The 2015 owner manual lists trailer left/right stop-turn lamps, trailer parking lights and reverse lamp on separate underhood fuse entries. Begin by confirming truck lighting works, then test the corresponding trailer connector output and ground. An aftermarket harness or corroded 7-way socket may be faulty even when every truck fuse is intact.

Before working on your vehicle

Use the correct model-year manual and current service information. Stop if instructions or safety precautions are unclear, and use a qualified technician for work you cannot verify.
